The West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) told the Calcutta high court on Wednesday that debarring identified “tainted” state government school teachers from the 2016 recruitment panel from appearing for the Supreme Court-directed fresh selection test violates their fundamental rights, lawyers who attended the hearing said.

WBSSC's lawyers referred to Article 20 (2) of the Constitution —which protects citizens from being punished twice for the same offence — saying appointments of the teachers concerned have already been cancelled by the Supreme Court.
