Like romantasy-a combination of epic plots and magical elements of fantasy - suburban noir - nasty goings on in respectable neighbourhoods - is a recognised book genre.

Streaming giants and film companies have mined it for screen adaptations. Gone Girl, Girl on a Train and Big Little Lies have all been given the treatment. Upcoming is a screen version of Elizabeth Day's The Party starring Luke Evans.
