Thank goodness most of Europe rejects extremism

A MEMO to our political reporters across the media landscape. Stop describing the rise of the far right as "stunning" or "remarkable".

Both those words suggest excitement and cause for optimism. For millions of people across the country, the revival of the far right is akin to a patient being told their cancer is returning. Read the room.

If, as a broadcaster, the far-right resurgence across Europe is such a shock to you, then you clearly haven't been monitoring billionaire media moguls and other media platforms falling over themselves to give extremists a voice.

If you think the resurgence of parties who want to treat people who look like me as second-class citizens is "stunning" then you and I live in vastly different worlds.
