Sugary drink tax on shakes

THE sugar tax will be slapped on pre-packaged milkshakes, lattes and yoghurt drinks, the Health Secretary confirmed yesterday.

Wes Streeting said he would rip up the exemption on milk-based drinks from the soft drinks industry levy and lower the threshold for the maximum amount of sugar allowed in beverages to 4.5g per 100ml.

It comes after the Mirror revealed plans to force companies to slash sugar content by January 2028 or face the new charge.
