Show gets a break as a spin-off is mooted

CALL the Midwife looks set to be "rested" after the 15th series next year, with plans for a spin-off show to fill the gap in 2027.

Writer and creator Heidi Thomas hinted that change was coming in an interview to mark the end of the 14th series on Sunday.

And sources revealed that fans should make the most of next year's series - because it is likely to be the last for a while.

There is one year left to run under the show's three-year deal with BBC1, guaranteeing that the loyal audience of 8 million viewers get their fix from Poplar in January 2026.
