We'll make a great national treasure even better at 30

‘National Lottery brings joy to communities across the country’

TURNING 30 is a major milestone in anyone's life. It's a moment to reflect on what you've achieved and what more you can do. This year The National Lottery, one of the UK's great institutions, hits that landmark. When I was approached to take on the role of chief executive of Allwyn UK - the company that will be running The National Lottery from February I thought back to that magical night of the first draw. I remembered the excitement across the country and immediately knew it was my dream job.

Since its launch in 1994, The National Lottery has brought joy to communities across the country. Thanks to everyone who has played, it has generated more than £48billion for nearly 700,000 initiatives. That's hundreds of projects, both big and small, in every postcode, yet all making a difference to lives and communities across the country.

Whether supporting a Belfast music project that helps young adults with special needs to communicate more confidently, part-funding the V&A in T Dundee, building the confidence of young people in Wales through boxing, or ensuring iconic institutions such as The National Theatre continue to thrive, I've seen first-hand how The National Lottery can change lives.
