Avanti owner's £900million bid to launch Eurostar rival

A CO-OWNER of Avanti West Coast has confirmed plans to launch a £900million rival to Eurostar, operating services between London and Paris.
FS Italiane Group hopes it will be up and running by 2029.
As well as setting aside €1billion for the project, it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Spanish mobility firm Evolyn. If it goes ahead, the new service would use trains made in Italy.
FS Italiane Group said it aims to "enhance rail competitiveness on the Paris-London route, providing an alternative to air travel while contributing to a more environmentally friendly, customer-centric mobility sector".
The group has been operating in France since 2021 and owns the c2c rail service.
