Raising the Bar: FoSTaC Training Empowers Over 36,000 Food Handlers in Maharashtra

Food safety is more than a regulatory requirement; it is a shared responsibility across the food supply chain. Maharashtra's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has made the FSSAI's Food Safety Training and Certification (FoSTaC) programme a cornerstone of its public health efforts, training over 36,000 food handlers in the past year and significantly raising hygiene standards at the grassroots level.

Street vendors, canteen staff, restaurant cooks and food processing workers are vital to public health, yet many lack formal training in safe practices. FoSTaC addresses this gap through accessible, practical instruction covering personal hygiene, safe storage, prevention of cross-contamination, correct cooking temperatures and proper waste disposal. The sessions also raise awareness of local regulations and the risks of poor handling, ensuring knowledge translates into safer practices.
