'Watching in tears' Council destroys climbing frame as children look on

FAMILIES in Easton have described how children stood “watching in tears” as the council “destroyed” their prized climbing frame.

Andy Metcalfe-Hull, said workers came in “without warning” and tore down the piece of play equipment.

A member of the council's parks department has since told him there is no funding available to replace it.

“While at the playpark on Bellevue Road today my wife and son, along with all the other parents and children, were surprised when council contractors arrived and started deconstructing the climbing frame,” said Mr Metcalfe-Hull.

“This park and climbing frame are used and relied on by so many local children and parents. It’s absolutely crazy to me that it would be removed. There was no warning given, and there is no plan to replace it. I understand the equipment has been deteriorating, and the state that the council keeps the park is also frankly disgusting with a serious litter problem. However, owing to these things, I didn’t think the park could go any more backward. Removing the climbing frame is a crazy step backwards.
