Uncommon Ideas For The Common Man - A Commoner's Nest, Zidke, Maharashtra
Indian Architect & Builder
|NOVEMBER 2018
Designed for a ‘common man’; a biology professor and landscape enthusiast, the Commoner’s Nest extracts extraordinariness from seemingly common means and technology. The project relooks the subjective ideas of luxury, common and uncommon and delivers a project that fits into the brackets proficiently.
A common misconception or perhaps even an apprehension that looms over architectural practices, is, that design services or consultancy are meant for the affluent few. While the architect’s certification is imperative to construction; aesthetics, sound design, inspirational built-form is not always a prerequisite. That’s a privilege reserved to maybe those who can afford high budgets; budgets that can accommodate time, exemplary material, engineering technologies and more. Needless to say, with high budgets, the product or the building is often one that ticks all the correct boxes. Or at least, most of the time, the client is happy with the service and product rendered to them. But the elephant in the room is seldom addresses - the fact that when budgets are liberal, the outcome is bound to be brilliant. Rather, the outcome should be brilliant, inspirational and astute. If otherwise, then perhaps much is left undesired and a lot needs to be questioned given the criminal waste of not only money, but also opportunity.
