Prof. Ar. Charanjit Singh Shah from Creative Group, New Delhi, shares his concern on remaking of the Lutyens Capital city through conservation, preservation and restoration and a dramatic interface between the heritage and contemporary architecture over deconstruction, demolition and dismantling in the article “Rethinking the Remaking of Capital City.” For this time's cover story we have the project 'Think of It' from Surat, a well designed garden restaurant in the true sense of the word, designed by Studio Lagom from Surat, a design that kept the built-form to the minimum and used economic materials to rationalize project cost. The issue also features the projects of some creative architects located in different parts of country; 'Maher Ashram' for destitute girls in Satara, Maharashtra designed by Studio PPBA from Pune is inspired from traditional Indian culture; 'Urban Oasis-Posh' Ahmedabad designed by The Grid Architects is a sustainable, energy-efficient residential housing project that also endorses high quality community living; the design of 'Minimum, the 2 cent Home' at Calicut in Kerala created by Ar. Rohit Palakkal from Nestcraft Architecture Mould, expounds space optimization in dense urban fabrics; Simple aesthetics, a minimal material palette and connections to nature are the main drivers of the design of the 'Skewed House' in Surat designed by Studio Lagom; The overall design of 'Catex Office' in Ahmedabad created by The Cross Boundaries emphasized on implementing environmentally friendly practices; and 'House of Hidden Doors' in Mumbai, again designed by Studio Lagom. 'Friends of Pho' a multi-cuisine restaurant located near the airport on the northern fringe of the city of Kolkata has been brilliantly designed by Ar. Sunil Maniramka of Maniramka & Associates emphasizing on the colours reflecting real flavours and combination of corresponding cultures of South Eastern Asia which communicates visually with the customers creating a story.
