The Estonian-born American star architect Louis I. Kahn once rightly said, “Architecture is the thoughtful making of space.” Although it is true and unarguable in various aspects, the projects featured in the October 2022 issue resonate and apply the quote in their form and function, in more ways than one. WATConnect, an initiative from World Architecture Travel, communicated the art and architecture aspects of the Durga Puja by showcasing unique temporary architecture and installations this month. Also featured in this issue is the exposition of Smart Habitat Foundation’s award ceremony and architects meet at New Delhi, led by Creative Group. We feel privileged to be a part of INTCON EXPO Guwahati 2022, the only B2B meet of Northeast for the interior design and construction sector to grow and network. This month’s cover highlights the Ahmedabad office where each space is buffered by a light edge on the outer side and internally opens into a courtyard, a design of Krishnakant Parmar and Vipuja Parmar of UA Lab- Urban Architectural Collaborative. Use of symmetry, locally-available materials and artful craftsmanship is evidently visible in the overall arena of the Kolhapur clothing store, a design of Devendra Chitte, Parth Chitte and Vishal Chitte of De’Caves by Chitte Architects. Minimalistic designs, earthy shades, calming colors, clean lines and play of light was the key idea behind the design of the Vadodara home by Jay Thakkar of J Architects. Curated furniture, designer light fixtures, art-inspired installations, along with timber and marble, feature in this Mumbai house by Rahul Mistri of Open Atelier Mumbai. The Gurugram home by Mayank Khemka and Vishesh Behl of Design Acrolect is a blend of spatial configurations through the incorporation of double-height volumes, pitched spaces, design, and material. The Raipur home design by Rishabh Luniya of Rishabh Luniya & Associates ensures openness and free flow of spaces with existing nature- the ten trees around.
