5 ways to wow with a bob

Asymmetrical

“A slanted bob has such a fresh, youthful feel,” says celebrity hairstylist Kim Kimble. It removes some weight from heavy hair, giving strands extra bounce and movement.

■ WHAT TO ASK FOR: A bob that's slightly longer on one side than the other with choppy layers through the ends for added texture.

■ STYLE TIP: After styling hair, work a pea-sized amount of a lightweight smoothing hair serum, such as Color Wow Pop & Lock High Gloss Finish Serum (Sephora.com), from mid-lengths to ends. This tames frizz and flyaways and locks in shine, so the cut's sleek, angled shape stays looking sharp from day to night.

Adding layers through the mid-lengths and ends gives a bob incredible bounce and body. Plus, these soft, graduated layers frame the face beautifully, making your features the star of the show.

The Mary Tyler Moore SHOW

From That Girl in the 1960s to Ally McBeal in the 1990s to Sex and the City in the 2000s, television has long reflected the shifting image of independent women. Yet the true game-changer came in 1970, when The Mary Tyler Moore Show introduced Mary Richards—30, single, stylish and making her way in a newsroom full of men. Rather than being someone’s wife or daughter, she was the star, and she changed television forever. Join us for a look back at rare behind-the-scenes photos of the groundbreaking show as we celebrate its 55th anniversary.

Happy money, happy holidays

The holidays are here (yay!), and with them comes both joy and, let's be honest, stress. For many of us, the shopping lists, entertaining costs or the ache of an empty chair at the table can dim the sparkle of the season. If that's you, please accept my wishes that the days land lightly.
