I love reality TV. I also don’t entirely trust it. That may be because I’ve been on two reality shows myself – Treasure Island: Couples At War and Dancing With The Stars NZ – so I’ve seen enough behind the scenes to know that the word “reality” is often doing a lot of heavy lifting. That’s not me being negative. It’s just the truth. Television has one job – to be entertaining. If everyone got along beautifully, behaved rationally and made mature decisions, we’d all be asleep by the first ad break. No one wants to watch a bunch of emotionally regulated adults eating crackers and communicating well.
