A swimming group that supports children and adults with additional needs are celebrating after swimmers raced to victory at a Special Olympics gala.

Leeds Stars athletes with Olympian Matt Richards MBE earlier this year.

Leeds Stars won 11 gold medals, seven silver and three bronze medals when their athletes took part in a range of swimming events at the Special Olympics Yorkshire and Humberside Regional Swimming Gala at the John Charles centre in south Leeds on November 29.

Alongside medals, the team won four 'speeding tickets', a Special Olympics award given to athletes who swim their race faster than the time they registered with.

The Special Olympics is a global sports organisation which provides year-round training and competition for athletes with intellectual disabilities.
