Teachers share harsh realities of hunger at start of school

Shock research shows almost one in three teachers in Yorkshire see hungry children every single day.

Children are so hungry they cannot concentrate, with teachers reporting that up to half of pupils in some classrooms have not eaten breakfast.

New findings from Affinity Workforce, with research carried out in November 2025, show that almost one in three teachers see hungry children every single day at the start of the school day.

The results come as the government announced a national rollout of free breakfast clubs to half a million children.
