Wu was not always a fan of podcasts, as many local ones were geared towards younger listeners and women, the 52-year-old reckoned. So when his artiste management agency Fly Entertainment pitched him a podcast featuring men like himself, he was sold.
"There's a dearth. There's not really a podcast here run by an individual who's maybe a bit older, male and has children," says Wu, who has a 20-year-old daughter and 18-year-son with his ex-wife, former actress Wong Li Lin.
Call Us Daddy's name might be similar to Call Her Daddy, the popular women-centric podcast run by American podcaster Alexandra Cooper, but Wu says it is not a direct influence.
"It's more about getting some like-minded, older, mature men together who have experiences as fathers, and are able to impart knowledge or humour or wisdom, and some fun and entertainment, to everyone in Singapore and beyond."
The first five episodes were co-hosted by Wu and American actor-host Bobby Tonelli. The duo riffed about issues ranging from divorces and salaries to woke culture and relationship red flags.
