Shah begins two-day Assam visit, sets stage for BJP's 2026 poll preparations

Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Assam for a two-day visit packed with political and developmental engagements, marking the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) early preparations for the 2026 assembly elections.
Shah was received at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who later accompanied him to the state BJP headquarters for a core committee meeting.
Shah was originally scheduled for a shorter trip on 29 August but extended his stay to address both party strategy and key government programmes.
Taking to social media before his arrival, Shah wrote, "Leaving for Assam on a two-day tour. Today, will chair the BJP's core committee meeting in Guwahati. In the morning tomorrow will initiate the National Cyber Forensic Laboratory to bolster cyber security in the region along with various other projects."
