Residents struggle with utility bills

AMID widespread reports of billing system failures, many Johannesburg residents say they have not received their utility bills for the month of February.

Earlier in the month, Moneyweb reported that the City’s two core billing systems were offline and its customer service centres stopped accepting payments on February 2. This reportedly affected all payments made in the two-week period before that, from January 19, allegedly causing them not to reflect.

The City, however, denied that payments weren't reflecting, stating on February 3 that “Payments made through official City channels continue to be processed and reflected on customer accounts”.

Nonetheless, by mid-February, scores of residents from across the city had taken to various social media platforms to complain that they had not received their monthly municipal statement by email.
