MG HS goes hybrid
The Philippine Star
|November 26, 2025
MG Philippines has been steadily building its electrified portfolio since 2024. Its move toward hybrid and EV offerings started with the Cyberster roadster, followed shortly by the MG 3 Hybrid+. Then came the ZS Hybrid+, which updated MG’s bestselling crossover for buyers beginning to look for electrified alternatives without moving to a full EV.
The arrival of the HS Hybrid+ follows this move. MG’s compact SUV sits in one of the most competitive segments in the Philippines, surrounded by heavy hitters like the Ford Territory, Toyota Corolla Cross, and BYD Sealion 6. Electrification has become a key selling point in this category, and MG needed to give the HS a timely push toward modernity.
Rather than a minor update, the HS transforms into a model that better fits today’s expectations — more efficiency, more safety tech, and a fresher look. It’s a strategic addition that widens MG PH’s electrified lineup while giving shoppers another hybrid option that doesn’t stray far from familiar crossover territory.
Under the hood, the HS Hybrid+ runs a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor. Combined output sits at 221 hp and 340 Nm, putting it in line with many turbocharged gas-only compact SUVs while gaining the benefits of electric assistance. Power is routed through a two-speed hybrid transmission driving the front wheels, supported by a 1.83 kWh lithium-ion battery.
