DMCI wins deal to link subway to southern NCR

After a three-year delay, the country's first underground railway is finally reaching the southern district of Metro Manila, with the Consunji's winning the contract package (CP) for the segment to Taguig City.

Based on an analyst's briefer obtained by The STAR, D.M. Consunji Inc. (DMCI) said it has won CP 105 of the MMSP, which covers the Kalayaan and Bonifacio Global City (BGC) stations.

This is the first time since 2022 that the Department of Transportation (DOTr) is awarding a new contract for the subway, a delay that pushed the project's completion by at least three years.

DMCI is undertaking the project with Japanese builder Nishimatsu Construction Co. Ltd., which is also its joint venture partner for CP 102 in Quezon Avenue and East Avenue. CP 105 consists of a 0.66-kilometer tunnel; a 242.2-meter station in Kalayaan; and a 436.05-meter station in BGC.

Once the CP is formally issued by the DOTr, DMCI said it may take 67 months, or six years and five months, to deliver the project. The alignment under CP 105 is critical since it finally crosses the subway to the south of Metro Manila.
