Child bitten by rabid dog dies, surge in attacks triggers fear in Alappuzha dist

A NINE-YEAR-OLD boy who was attacked by a rabid dog died due to the infection on Monday.

The deceased is Sravan D Krishna of Smith Bhavan, Charummood. According to health department officials, the child was on a ventilator for the past few days.

"A rabid dog attacked him while he was riding a bicycle near his house on February 6. However, the child did not inform his family about the incident, because of which he did not receive a rabies vaccination following the attack. On Friday, he developed a fever and was taken to a nearby hospital near Charummood. Upon examination, doctors identified that he was infected with rabies, following which he was shifted to a private hospital in Tiruvalla," officials said.
