Go bold with Cape Lights
The Mercury
|May 29, 2025
THE Vaal has a nine race meeting today and in the races down the straight low draws could be favourable because that would be the trend when the inside rail is at zero and the outside rail is in by 12 metres.
The highest rated race is the seventh a ‘MR 92 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1600m. Cape Lights disappointed last time but will enjoy the step up in trip and has a nice low draw so should make a bold bid. Blind Ambition has two out of three since relocating from Cape Town and is also distance suited.
He is up to a 91 merit rating but could progress further and has a fair draw of five which is towards the right side.
I Am Regal
I Am Regal is drawn in pole and with a 4kg claimer up could be in the shake up. Twostep Queen could bounce back from a nice low draw. It's Her Way won well last time and has a nice low draw.
In the first leg over 1200m of the Pick Johnny Drama just failed last time and can make amends from a nice low draw.
Force Publique looks capable of improving on his fair debut.
