REMOVING the lowest house price bracket eligible to pay stamp duty has the potential to benefit thousands of homebuyers in the city - but could also see prices pushed up even further, according to a property conveyancer.
Katie Eden, a legal executive at Thompson and Jackson Solicitors, said prices in and around Plymouth meant that many buyers would benefit from the scrapping of the lowest band of property eligible to pay the tax - previously anything above £125,000 qualified. Now, buyers will only pay stamp duty on any property above £250,000, taking thousands of homes out of the taxation bracket.
Ms Eden, who deals with the legal side of house purchases, said it would have a big impact in Plymouth.
