Social housing project boosts Plympton street

DOZENS of homes on a former military estate in Plympton are being turned into social housing, after Plymouth Community Homes secured a multi-million pound funding package.

A total of 86 three bedroom homes on Hillcrest Close, along with 80 garages, will be purchased. The homes will be made available for affordable rental or shared ownership for locals in need of housing.

The £7.6 million package includes grants provided by the Government-sponsored funding body, Homes England, and Plymouth City Council.

Annington Homes is the freeholder of the properties, and the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has a leasehold on the homes, with letting agent Orchard and Shipman collecting the rent on behalf of the MoD. Once the sale is complete, the properties will be refurbished by Plymouth Community Homes (PCH) as part of a £21.5 million project to provide much-needed three-bedroom homes for Plymouth, with at least 53 made available for social rental by local people.
