IN Division A, there was a topsyturvy match between Phil Hore and Paul Cooper and Neil Coleman and sub Jason Vospet.

Hore and Cooper are victors after topsy-turvy encounter

Phil and Paul certainly didn’t hang about by taking the first two sets, but perhaps celebrated their first win too early, as Neil and Jason took the final set with ease as the weather took a turn for the worse. However, Phil and Paul had done enough to win 6-1, 6-3, 1-6.

Eric Vicente with sub Matt Bowers proved too strong for Chris Janes and Varun Philip, winning 6-1, 6-2, 6-3. Chris and Varun got better in each set, but not enough to take a set off Eric and Matt.

On one of the few evenings where it was mild and calm, Ben Knight and Tom Pantling proved too strong for Dave Gale and Steve Matcham, although the rallies and play did not match the score line of 6-1, 6-0, 6-0.

In Mens B, Andrew Regan and Dan Baugh played Lester Ellicott and Richard Turner.

They were glad to miss the worst of the rain and the score flattered Andrew and Dan as there were quite a few deuce games, which could have gone either way, but Andrew and Dan won 6-0, 6-1, 6-1.

Sean Westonholme and Simon Dixon gave the Mens B leaders Nick Souness and Mike Smith a tough match, especially with Simon’s unorthodox serve.

Nick and Mike both had to ensure their baseline play and serves were good to take the points and win 6-1, 6-1, 6-1.

Jon Jacobs and Mike Scott started the first set with a break of serve against Chris Shorter and John Putman and, although there were a number of trades of breaks throughout the set, they took the first set.
