COMMISSIONER ELECTION TAKES PLACE TOMORROW
ALISON STEPHENSON
Debating the future of region's policing

THE three candidates standing to become the Police and Crime Commissioner for Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly have explained why you should vote for them.

Incumbent Alison Hernandez, for the Conservative Party, is once again standing. She was first elected to the role in 2016 and has served two terms. She will be challenged by candidates from the Labour Party and the Liberal Democrats.

The Labour candidate is Daniel Steel, while Steve Lodge is the Liberal Democrats’ candidate.

Police and Crime Commissioners ensure the delivery of an effective and efficient police service within their force area. They are responsible for appointing the Chief Constable, holding them to account for running the force, and, if necessary, dismissing them; and setting the police and crime objectives for their area through a police and crime plan. They also are responsible setting the force budget and determining the precept, holding the Chief Constable to account for how the force contributes to the national and international policing capabilities set out by the Home Secretary, and bringing together community safety and criminal justice partners to make sure local priorities are joined up. Below, the three candidates explain why you should vote for them tomorrow.

ALISON HERNANDEZ – CONSERVATIVE

Tackling rural crime and a radical solution to prevent domestic violence will be among Alison Hernandez’s top priorities, if she is reelected for a third term as Police and Crime Commissioner for Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
