MP CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE HALT TO FELLING AS PUBLIC EXPRESS OUTRAGE AT DESTRUCTION OF ARMADA WAY GREENERY:
AMBER EDWARDS
4,000 SIGN PETITION TO SAVE TREES

A PETITION to save the trees on Plymouth's Armada Way has more than 4,000 signatures and is close to reaching its target of 5,000 names.

Save the Trees of Armada Way, aka STRAW, is protesting at Plymouth City Council's plan to chop down trees along the avenue.

It comes as Plymouth Sutton and Devonport's Labour MP, Luke Pollard, has demanded an immediate halt to the felling and regeneration work, saying the city council has its priorities wrong at a time of public service cuts.

COUNCIL CLAIMS REPLACEMENT TREES WOULD BE HEALTHIER

The council is regenerating the area in the city centre, but the campaign wants it to consider changing the plans to 'bulldoze it flat' and instead save the trees.
