There was huge backlash over the bank holiday weekend when it emerged that the entire cast of Andrew Lloyd Webber's new show were sacked just minutes after a matinee performance, and future cast members found out via social media.
In a statement on Sunday by his Really Useful Group, Lloyd-Webber said “mounting a new show in the midst of Covid” had been an "unbelievable challenge” and that a new production of Cinderella would open on Broadway in 2023. The final West End performance of the show at London's Gillian Lynne Theatre is now set for 12 June, just a year after it opened.
