THERE WILL ALSO BE NEW GREEN SPACES AND A PLAY AREA
MORE than 200 additional houses have been given the go-ahead at a planning meeting.
Middlesbrough Council's planning committee met on Thursday, September 4, to discuss the latest plans for Hemlington Grange, with approval meaning that 225 dwellings can be built. Applicant Persimmon was pleased with the news, and following on from the existing Saffron Gardens development, the approval will enable the construction of 162 homes in phase three and 63 homes in phase four.
The application was submitted in November 2024 and at the time, the developer said the wider site was allocated in the Middlesbrough Local Plan, with outline planning permission for up to 1,230 homes. A broad range of homes are being proposed, ranging from two to four bedroom properties.
This includes a mixture of detached, semidetached and terraced homes. Persimmon will also deliver a new play area, new public footpaths and green spaces across the site.
While concerns and queries were raised by numerous councillors, it didn't stop the plans getting voted through. Conservative Councillor David Coupe, who represents the ward that the development is taking place in, highlighted both wildlife and safety concerns.
