‘WOMEN ARE BREAKING STEREOTYPES: PREZ MURMU ON REPUBLIC DAY EVE

WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT AT THE FOREFRONT

President Murmu stressed the critical role of women's “active and empowered participation” in nation-building, citing the government's flagship initiatives such as Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao and Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana. She noted that more than 57 crore bank accounts have been opened under the latter scheme, with women holding nearly 56 per cent.

“Our women are breaking traditional stereotypes and forging ahead. More than ten crore women associated with self-help groups are redefining the process of development,” she said. Murmu highlighted women’s achievements across sectors including agriculture, space, self-employment, armed forces, and sports. She lauded India’s daughters for winning the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup and the Blind Women's T20 World Cup, as well as the Chess World Cup final featuring two Indian women.

The President also highlighted women’s growing role in governance, with nearly 46 per cent representation in Panchayati Raj institutions. She welcomed the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, aimed at furthering women’s political empowerment, emphasising its role in shaping a Viksit Bharat and an inclusive Republic.
