Bhadra is a longtime associate of the family of Mamata Banerjee and works in a company that was headed by Trinamool’s number two and Mamata Banerjee’s nephew, Abhishek Banerjee. Leaps & Bounds now has Abhishek’s father, Mamata Banerjee’s elder brother Amit Banerjee, and Lata Banerjee as the firm’s directors. The BJP believes that this arrest can actually lead the investigators to the “masterminds” behind the education scam in the state.
Suvendu Adhikari, the BJP’s Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, tweeted: “Sujay Krishna Bhadra, aka “Kalighat-er Kaku,” was arrested. The long arm of the law is finally reaching towards the masterminds and the biggest beneficiaries.
No one will be spared. THE HIGH AND MIGHTY WILL GO TO JAIL. TIME IS TICKING.”
BJP national vice-president Dilip Ghosh said that the arrest of Bhadra was a “testimony” to the fact that the TMC was involved in the scam. He said that the BJP had been demanding the arrest of Bhadra for a long time and that the ED’s action had finally vindicated the party’s stand.
