Law strip set to fetch over £5k at auction

A FOOTBALL jersey worn by the late Scottish legend Denis Law in a match that helped seal his transfer to Manchester United could fetch up to £5,500 at auction this week.

The red and green number 11 jersey was worn by "the Lawman" when he played for Italian side Torino in November 1961.

The game at Old Trafford saw the squad featuring the Aberdeen-born striker win 2-0, in front of 31,911 spectators.

After the match, Law was approached by Manchester United's Scottish manager Sir Matt Busby, who signed him the following year.

The long-sleeved jersey is going under the hammer alongside the ankle leg-sleeves he wore during the match.
