'Hope of justice broken': Kejriwal boycotts hearing before Delhi HC judge

Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal has informed Delhi High Court judge Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma that he will not participate in further proceedings in the excise policy case before her, either personally or through legal counsel, the party said on Monday.

In a detailed four-page letter, Kejriwal cited what he described as a “grave miscarriage of justice” and said his decision was guided by his conscience, while also invoking the principles of Satyagraha associated with Mahatma Gandhi.

Kejriwal wrote that his “hope of getting justice” from Justice Sharma had been “broken”, prompting him to withdraw from the proceedings. He said the move was not taken lightly and acknowledged that it could harm his own legal position. “I understand that I may lose the opportunity to advance submissions before this Hon’ble Court and that adverse consequences in law may follow. I am prepared to bear those consequences,” he stated.
