A hot new era for TV dinners

A SUMMER serving of a new-style magazine programme whet the appetites of viewers 40 years ago.

Food And Drink launched on BBC2 on July 6, 1982, offering a 30-minute slice of the latest culinary trends and inviting the audience to give their verdict on new offerings.

They were offered garlic ice cream and chocolate from America in one episode and roundly panned the strange food combination. "Pass the bucket," said one tester when she was urged to finish eating her dish.
