Key JD(U) meet today amid buzz over rejig

The Janata Dal (United) is set to hold its national executive and council meetings in Delhi on Friday amid speculation that Rajiv Ranjan 'Lalan' Singh might be replaced as the party's president as part of an organisation rejig ahead of the Lok Sabha elections next year.

Before leaving for Delhi, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar sought to downplay the buzz over the two-day conclave which began on Thursday with a meeting party's office-bearers.

"These meetings take place every year. It's normal...there is nothing specific at all. These are routine meetings", he said. In Delhi, he held a closed-door meeting with Singh at his residence, people aware of the matter said. They then attended a meeting of JD(U)'s national officebearers at the party office.
