Cold weather conditions persisted in most parts of North India on Wednesday, with minimum temperatures plunging in most places in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), especially the Kashmir Valley, leading to the freezing of several water bodies and water supply lines in many areas, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
NEW DELHI:
Srinagar recorded the minimum temperature of -7.3° Celsius on Tuesday night, down from -6.6° Celsius the previous night. Night temperatures also plunged in Himachal Pradesh, with mercury in the higher reaches such as Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti, Kullu, Chamba, and Dalhousie dipping to sub-zero in the last 24 hours. State capital Shimla recorded a minimum temperature of 2° Celsius.
In Rajasthan, dense fog enveloped several parts as cold conditions persisted in the desert state on Wednesday. The minimum temperature was recorded at 6.6° Celsius at Pilani (Jhunjhunu) and Ganganagar, IMD said.
In Himachal Pradesh, the lowest minimum temperature was recorded at -10.6° Celsius in the tribal area of Tabo in Lahaul-Spiti. In Kaza, the night temperature was -6.9°, while Kukumseri recorded -8.2° Celsius. In Kinnaur district's Rekong-Peo, the minimum temperature dropped to -0.9° Celsius.
