South Africa clinch first World Test Championship title against Australia
First India Jaipur
|June 15, 2025
South Africa won the World Test Championship (WTC) final by five wickets, defeating defending champions Australia on the fourth morning, on Saturday, at Lord’s. The Proteas chased down the remaining 69 runs to seal their first major cricket title in 27 years, triggering jubilant celebrations.
Resuming at 213-2, South Africa reached 282-5, completing the second-highest successful run chase in the 141-year history of Test cricket at Lord’s. Known for collapsing in high-stakes ICC matches, South Africa held firm this time with a composed, gritty performance, hitting just three boundaries over more than two hours.
Australia fought relentlessly, attacking the stumps and applying constant pressure. But South Africa, calm and unshaken, lost only three wickets on Saturday, ensuring their long-awaited triumph.
