THE Tories are resisting efforts to guarantee Afghans who served alongside British forces will not be deported to Rwanda.
Snubbing ministers' pleas, peers last night voted for an amendment to the Safety of Rwanda Bill that would exempt Afghan interpreters from the controversial deportation plan, by 247 votes to 195.
The Tories say there is no need for such an amendment, offering verbal assurances to do the right thing by Afghans who helped British forces.
