THOUSANDS of animals are being held captive, abused and exploited for financial gain in holidaymakers' "selfish selfies", warns a wildlife welfare organisation.
Born Free has hit out at both celebrities and holidaymakers for propping up the souvenir photo industry.
And it warned they are also risking their own health and safety due to potential spread of disease and attack from deeply distressed animals.
Little Mermaid star Halle Bailey, 23, caused controversy last month after posting Instagram pictures of her bottle-feeding a tiger cub, alongside a chained elephant, and hugging an orangutan at Safari World in Thailand.
And Born Free has written to UK football clubs and players' union the PFA after a surge of stars, including Manchester United's Scott McTominay, have been pictured with captive animals.
