SHIP CRASH PILOT'S DESPERATE BID TO SAVE LIVES
Christopher Bucktin
First bridge dead named

THE heroic efforts of a pilot on the stricken cargo ship that brought down the Baltimore bridge were revealed yesterday - as some of the six workers killed were named.

The men were filling in potholes on the Maryland city's Francis Scott Key Bridge when it was hit by 95,000 ton container ship Dali in the early hours of Tuesday.

The disaster happened after the Sri Lanka-bound vessel suffered a catastrophic power loss just after leaving port. At least eight people were plunged into the Patapsco River. Two were rescued.
