Hutton show they are spot on in Trophy final after a thriller
Brentwood Gazette
|May 07, 2025
HUTTON emerged victorious from a dramatic penalty shootout as they defeated Brentwood Town following an entertaining 3-3 draw, earning them the title of Essex Women's Trophy champions for 2024/25.
-
Hutton's Daisy Canny put her team in front on the half-hour mark, and Hayley Critchell added a second five minutes later. Charlotte Dance replied for Brentwood on 38 minutes, though Emily Clarke restored the two-goal advantage in the 64th minute. Town refused to back down, however, and Sienna Sherman and Marnie Ray goals on 67 and 76 minutes respectively eventually forced extra time. But Hutton went on to score four of their spot kicks, earning them the silverware.
The opening exchanges were competitive, though there were few clear cut opportunities for either side until Brentwood's Ray played a ball over the top to Kasey Keen on 22 minutes. She poked the ball wide of the advancing goalkeeper, Mia Lempriere, but just out of the reach of team mate Sherman, who would have had an open goal to aim at.
Then the floodgates opened, and there were three goals in an eventful eight minutes. Hutton's Canny firstly dribbled all the way inside from the right wing and got herself into a position to tap the ball inside the near post at an angle from a few yards out to give her team the lead. That advantage was quickly doubled.
