More listed Thai companies to issue emissions reports

Roughly half of the listed companies have disclosed their greenhouse gas emissions, which miss levels for the country to achieve its net-zero target by 2050, says the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET).

Recognising this challenge, the bourse launched SETCarbon, a digital platform designed to help businesses manage and standardise their carbon emissions data as part of an effort to nudge Thai listed companies towards achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050.

The SET is also strengthening partnerships with banks to enhance the quality, accuracy and transparency of carbon data, supporting companies seeking access to green loans, said senior executive vice-president Soraphol Tulayasathien.

"Climate-related disclosure requirements are increasing worldwide, and Thailand's capital market must advance accordingly," he said.

Three years ago, only 182 out of nearly 800 listed companies reported and verified their GHG emissions, a level Mr Soraphol described as too low to meaningfully support the country's net-zero pathway. Some 332 listed companies or 36% of the total reported and verified their GHG data between 2022 and 2024.
