India's drug makers fear US tariff threat

NEW DELHI: An important segment of India's business community woke up yesterday to a fight: US President Donald Trump had again brandished the threat of tariffs on pharmaceutical exports.

"We're going to be announcing shortly a major tariff on pharmaceuticals," he told guests at a dinner held by the National Republican Congressional Committee.

His remarks most of a week trying to find reasons for hope after one block of bad news: the fact that the global pharmaceutical industry was excluded from the first round of tariffs.
