feeling festive with MINKI

With a media career spanning over 20 years, Minki van der Westhuizen is no stranger to South African TV screens. Her show, Minki, airs on Via (Dstv channel 147) every Monday. Beyond gracing the small screen, she's also a pro at playing dress-up with her three daughters, homemaking, and sharing relatable mom content online. We caught up with her at her favourite time of year - the festive season.

WHAT MAKES CHRISTMAS SO SPECIAL TO YOU?

In Afrikaans, we call it gees – it’s all about the spirit! I’m one of those people who prop up the Christmas tree on the 1st of November, and I’m prone to blasting Christmas jingles – Mariah, Michael Bublé, Elvis Presley and Dolly Parton all find their way onto a playlist my lovely husband endures.

WHAT DO YOU PRIORITISE DURING THE HOLIDAYS?

For me, it’s about celebrating a successful year and looking forward to what a new one will bring. It’s about taking time to regroup with loved ones and soaking up those fleeting festive moments with my husband and our three daughters. We love Christmas caroling and going on family drives to see the festive lights at night. They’re humble, spirited, special moments that allow us to reflect on the true meaning behind Christmas in a memorable way.

HOW WILL YOU SPEND THE FESTIVE SEASON THIS YEAR?
