An Eclectic Retreat

Homeowner Katherine Murphy has curated an inviting sanctuary in the beautiful surroundings of Kenmare in the West of Ireland.

Once the family home of Katherine Murphy, owner of Nest in Kenmare, for the last five years it has been an Airbnb for others to enjoy the sanctuary that it offers in this beautiful part of Ireland.

‘The house is like the Marie Celeste,’ says Katherine, ‘It is exactly as we left it and anyone that stays loves the homely feel of the place.’

‘It’s the perfect base from which to explore the Ring of Kerry and Ring of Beara. The house itself is three miles outside the town of Kenmare, which is like a little nest in the middle of the mountains, hence the name of my shop, so it’s close enough to walk, but far enough away that it’s a peaceful retreat in the busier summer months,’ adds Katherine who is still very attached to the home where she raised her two daughters, now 15 and 18.

‘We call it ‘The Garden House’ because the garden envelopes the house and merges into the mountains surrounding the property. We have three acres of outdoor space, the garden itself is about an acre, and there is a variety of outdoor areas to enjoy and one covered spot allowing for year round use. I am particularly fond of the patio accessed via the two French doors at the front of the house. It is elevated and looks out over the mountainside which slopes down into garden.
