WHEN NATALIE AND SAM BOUGHT A PLAIN-JANE TERRACE IN DEAL, THEY KNEW THEY COULD TRANSFORM IT WITH A MODERN EXTENSION AND A PALETTE OF CHEERFUL COLOURS

Looking for a project and a change of pace, Natalie and Sam moved from London to the seaside town of Deal. They transformed this terraced house into a place that always feels like they’re on holiday.

WHAT PROMPTED A MOVE TO THE COAST?

‘Like many, 2020 was a rough year for us. My husband and I were living in London and our jobs were very stressful, particularly mine as I was working in healthcare. When our lifestyles became unsustainable, we decided to change careers and move back to Deal, where we are from, keen for a more relaxed life. Sam started his own accountancy firm working with local businesses and I started assisting him.’

HOW DID YOU FIND THE PROPERTY?

‘We started looking for a doer-upper that would satisfy our urge to renovate. We’re huge fans of all things interiors and couldn’t wait to get stuck into our first house project together. So, when we saw this ripe-for-renovating terrace just a few streets from the beach, we knew it was perfect. Despite its period vibe, the house was unmodernised with a series of small, poky rooms and an overgrown garden.’
