Let us count the ways.

How Is a Sofa Most Like an EARRING?

Experimentation and unique pairings define the ethos of Hemmerle, which is now led by Yasmin and Christian Hemmerle.

When you arrive at 14 Maximilianstrasse, Munich, you see a sketch of a street scene and a sign. “Hemmerle,” it says, “is moving up.” Technically it’s down a few streets and then up. After 120 years, the jewelry is still entirely in the family, but at a new address. There are high ceilings, soaring windows, and a corner balcony with a view of Maximilian II’s boulevard. It offers a more private experience (though open to the public, appointments are recommended) in a sanctuary that reflects how tradition is best maintained through occasional experimentation.

You might even, when holding a new piece from this four-generation dynasty, in aluminum or bronze finished with an ancient artifact, describe that as the Hemmerle way. But back to our initial inquiry. Here are four ways a Vladimir Kagan sofa is most like a Hemmerle Harmony bangle.

Laying a Foundation

The talk of Paris this month is something brilliantly designed, terribly sophisticated, and, of course, from Cartier.
