Their dynamic chemistry led to the hit sitcom Kenan & Kel, which debuted in 1996, as well as the launch of the 1997 cult-classic movie Good Burger, featuring Kel's popular All That alter ego Ed, a sweet but far from brilliant fast-food cashier, and Kenan's new character Dexter.
The actors grew apart in the early 2000s before eventually becoming close again. Earlier this month Kel, 45, was hospitalized because a bulging disc in his back was pressing against a nerve and causing numbness and an inability to swallow. Now, he says, he's doing "a lot better," thanks, in part, to the support of Kenan, 45. "It's that guaranteed somebody's-got-your-back feeling at any given moment," Kenan says of their bond, which will flourish again onscreen with the Nov. 22 premiere of Good Burger 2 on Paramount+.
How was it working together again on Good Burger 2?
KENAN THOMPSON Giggling and laughing all day. It's hard to call it work.
KEL MITCHELL Facts.
KENAN The long hours go by with a spoonful of sugar. You look forward to going to work.
