Technology in watchmaking is and will continue to be first and foremost at the service of the customers. With a boom in metallurgy and materials and with advanced computer-guided machinery capable of working at finer tolerances, it's no wonder that there are high-end watches today that amaze traditional watchmakers. The watch world has always made small advances. However, in the last few decades, it saw an interweaving of the traditional and the futuristic at a rapid and thrilling speed leaving people often confused by the cutting-edge design and old-school materials but mainly between the use of modern and traditional elements in the same piece. New materials are in continuous development and are borrowed by the watch industry for efficient value. Machinery like 3D printers, multi-axis milling and turning machines, allow watch manufacturers to do what wasn't possible a few decades ago. The development pace has picked up momentum and watchmakers can now produce components that were beyond belief earlier. The balance between tradition and technology in watchmaking is nothing short of a re-framing of what the wristwatch is all about.
